Cloud ALM and test automation with Tricentis
In the SAP environment, frequent changes and standardized processes quickly lead to bottlenecks in manual testing. With SAP Cloud ALM and Tricentis Test Automation (TTA), test automation can be implemented efficiently, integrated and free of license costs.
Codeless automation, modular & maintainable
TTA supports SAP Fiori, SAP GUI, browser-based solutions (e.g. Ariba, SuccessFactors) and APIs. Test steps can be created without programming using a recorder. Modular building blocks make tests maintainable, reusable and customizable – ideal for regression, end-to-end validation and release validation.
Testing in the SAP Cloud ALM context
SAP Cloud ALM supports both manual and automated test processes. Manual test cases are maintained and executed directly in Cloud ALM. Automated test cases, on the other hand, are only created as a shell in Cloud ALM – the actual scripts are created in Tricentis Test Automation. For an in-depth overview of test management with Cloud ALM, see also our article:

The procedure is as follows:
- Automated test cases are created in Cloud ALM and linked to Tricentis.
- The test steps are created in Tricentis.
- The manual and automatic test cases are assigned to a test plan.
- The execution is triggered by the Cloud ALM and executed via a team agent in the Tricentis environment.
- The test results are automatically fed back and displayed in Cloud ALM.
This enables a continuous test process, even if technical execution and planning take place in separate systems.

New Test Case Builder
With the latest update, Tricentis uses the new Test Case Builder as standard. This offers a revised interface and extends the range of functions for test case creation. Existing test cases can still be maintained in the classic editor, but there are plans to migrate all test cases to the new view in the future. Test cases that are created via Cloud ALM automatically use the new builder.

Manage test data more efficiently
The new Test Data Management in the Tricentis Cloud enables the reuse of structured test data. This reduces manual effort and ensures consistent results, especially for data-driven tests.

Activation in SAP Cloud ALM
Tricentis Test Automation is connected via the Cloud ALM Launchpad.

After activation, a tenant is automatically provided, including user administration, authentication and connection to the Tricentis interface.

The test scripts themselves are created web-based in TTA. All that is required is a supported browser and the Tricentis Launcher for local agents. The test is executed either locally or via provided team agents in your own network.
Application scenarios
The solution is particularly suitable for:
- Regression tests
- Safeguarding standardized processes (e.g. master data maintenance, billing)
- Release validations and end-to-end tests across system boundaries
Integration with Cloud ALM means that test activities remain visible and traceable in the project context, even as the number of test cases increases.
Quick start, no additional costs
Tricentis Test Automation is already included in the free SAP Cloud ALM license.
This is included in the free standard package:
- Access for up to 5 users
- Use of max. 5 team agents
- Up to 500 test runs per month
- 3 GB memory for test results
Conclusion
SAP Cloud ALM in combination with Tricentis Test Automation provides a basis for structured test automation.
With SAP Cloud ALM, test automation can be established step by step – without additional tool expenditure. The decisive factor is the sensible selection of automated test cases and clear responsibilities for maintenance and test coordination.
